Record setting Jacket Ride for Veteran Scholarships

Updated: Aug 20, 2019

The 2019 Jacket Ride was our largest group to date with 78 bikes and 106 riders! Escorted by our American Legion brothers and sisters, this 68 mile ride went through Spearfish Canyon, down to Nemo and Vanocker Canyon ending at Scott Peterson Motors with a lunch provided by Rent a Chef and sponsored by the dealership.

This year two of the scholarship students were able to attend the ride. Les Nuckles, General Studies major from Custer and Jeffrey Merrill, Environmental Science major from Rapid City. Each student gave a brief statement of thanks to the audience. Because of our generous sponsors, which also include Dennis Kirk and Black Hills Pioneer, 100% of the rider registration fee goes to student scholarships. To date the Jacket Ride has awarded over $19,000 to student Veterans at Black Hills State University while adding $1,000 to an endowment each year to provide future scholarships.
